Pet Insurance does not cover pre-existing conditions, but Zoomies differentiates between curable and incurable conditions and may cover your pet’s curable conditions. Other exclusions include routine or preventative care, breeding, and spay/neuter.

Start Date & Waiting Periods

What are Zoomies’s waiting periods?

All insurance policies with Zoomies have a 48-hour waiting period for accidents. The waiting period for illnesses is 14 days. All dogs have a six-month waiting period for orthopedic conditions which can be reduced significantly to 14 days, if you follow the Orthopedic Exam and Waiver Process below.

Waiting periods will start on the same date as your policy. Any medical conditions that occur during the waiting period may be counted as a pre-existing condition and excluded from your coverage. This is to discourage pet parents from taking out a policy when their pet has a known condition and making an immediate claim, which increases premiums for everyone. Pet insurance coverage is meant for unexpected sickness and accidents.

How does a waiting period work with Zoomies?

All waiting periods start at the same time as your policy, which will be the day after you purchase your plan at 12:01 am Eastern Standard Time (EST).

For example, the highlighted text needs updated to “For example, if you purchase a policy on January 1 before 11:59 pm EST, it becomes effective on January 3.”

Your waiting periods would be: Accidents: January 3 (2 days after your policy start date) Illnesses: January 17 (14 days after your policy start date) Orthopedic Conditions: July 3 (waiting and exclusion periods for ortho conditions vary. See TC for details)

Can I make a claim during the waiting period?

Unfortunately not, as waiting periods by definition are the time you have to wait before making a claim. Even if your pet develops symptoms or an unforeseeable emergency during this time, you will not be covered.

Mandatory vet visit

Your pet must have been seen by a licensed vet in the past 12 months as part of your policy terms and conditions. You will also need to have access to your pet’s exam record. If your pet hasn’t seen a vet in this time frame, you are required to visit your veterinarian within the first 14 days of your pet’s policy before coverage begins. You will need to provide proof of this exam when making a claim and it will need to contain medical findings so spay/neuter or vaccine clinics may not qualify. Please contact us with any questions you may have.

Orthopedic Exam and Waiver Process for dogs

It may be possible to reduce the six-month orthopedic waiting period on your policy if you take your dog to the vet for a simple orthopedic exam after you purchase your policy.

Your vet will fill in the Zoomies Orthopedic Exam Report Card by completing the following checks:

All bones for signs of fractures and bone cancers.
All joints for signs of arthritis.
The hips and legs for signs of hip dysplasia, luxating patellas (slipping knee caps), and cruciate ligament tears.
The spine for signs of intervertebral disc disease.
The shoulders and forelimbs for signs of elbow dysplasia and osteochondritis dissecans.
Any other orthopedic abnormalities.

If the orthopedic exam is performed within the first 14 days of your pet’s health insurance policy, your orthopedic waiting period will be reduced to the end of your illness waiting period.

If it’s performed after the first 14 days, the waiting period will be reduced to the day of your orthopedic exam. Unfortunately, examinations carried out before your policy’s official start date will not be accepted.

No other diagnostic tests, procedures, or X-rays are required for your pet’s insurance coverage.

Payment Schedule

Your first payment is due on the date of purchase and includes a one time admin fee of $25.00. Then your insurance policy payment will automatically deduct from your credit/debit card or checking account each month and automatically renew each year. Monthly insurance payments include a $1.00 installment fee.

Zoomies Policy Terms & Conditions

By purchasing this policy for your pet, you understand and agree to the following:

The information shown on your application is true and complete

You understand that non-disclosure or misrepresentation may render this contract null and void. You acknowledge that you are 18 years of age or older.
You have selected the coverages you want.
We do not collect health information or credit reports on consumers that have a Pet Health Insurance Policy.

There are waiting periods before your coverage begins.

Illnesses: 14 days
Accidents: 48 hours
Orthopedic conditions: 6 months (This waiting period only applies to dogs and can be reduced to 14 days by following the steps described here: (Orthopedic Exam Waiver process)

Your pet needs to have been to a licensed veterinarian for an examination in the past 12 months and access to detailed exam records is required.

If your pet has not been to the vet in the last 12 months, he/she must be examined by a veterinarian within the first 14 days from the policy start date for your illness coverage to start. The vet exam needs to have documented medical findings, so spay /neuter or vaccine clinics may not qualify. Please contact our Customer Care team if you have any questions on vet exams.

Pre-existing conditions are not covered.

A pre-existing condition is any injury, illness, or irregularity noticed by you or your veterinarian before the end of your waiting period, even if your pet never went to see the veterinarian for it. No pet insurance company covers pre-existing conditions

IF WELLNESS PURCHASED:

Wellness Rewards is not insurance, but a reimbursement plan designed to be paid in full over a 12-month policy term. Wellness funds do not roll over to the next term. If canceled early, Zoomies reserves the right to collect any outstanding payments or disallow future participation in the Wellness Rewards plan. Wellness rewards has no waiting period or deductible.

Your policy will automatically renew annually.

You have 60 days from the renewal date to submit claims from the prior term.
You will receive a notification of renewal with your new premium amount prior to the start date on your new policy. You must notify Zoomies if you do not wish to renew your policy.
You agree to the Zoomies Payment Terms

You authorize Zoomies to automatically charge monthly payments to your selected payment method. This payment authorization will be in effect until you revoke it by contacting Zoomies. If you have not lodged any claims, you can cancel this policy within 30 days of the date of issue and all premiums will be fully and promptly refunded.

MyZoomies- You will receive an email after purchase on how to set up your MyZoomies. It is very important that you sign up for this as soon as possible. Upon entering the MyZoomies portal you will be prompted to enter in all necessary Vet Hospitals your pet(s) have seen. The MyZoomies Portal is also where you can review policy documents, file claims, view claims status and make changes to your policy. These items can also be done on the MyZoomies App.
